cmrIt has been 30 years since Tom Warren won the second ever Ironman Triathlon back in 1979. Tommy came on with us to talk about the early days of the sport and what he remembers from the race that did so much to put Ironman on the map.

Tom was always a pleasant training buddy. I find it supprising to hear he describes himself to be antisocial. He always had lots to talk about and never had an ego problem. It is refreshing to see someone who understands himself so well, is comfortable with himself and doesn’t take himself to seriously. Great guy and great interview.

I never heard of Warren before.  Last week, while riding my bicycle in San Diego’s Mission Bay with my wife, we were somewhat lost, although we were using a garmin.  Some older guy rode up and we asked him for directions.  He said to follow him, which we did for the next 15 miles.  It was Warren.  I googled the guy and well, he is/was very unassuming, a regular guy – who still bikes 300 miles/week!!  Jim Loving, Silver Spring, MD.
