Amy Palmiero-Winters lost her leg at the age of 18 in a motorcycle accident in 1994 and she’ll tell you in no uncertain terms that it was the best thing that ever happened to her. After over 20 operations to try and save her leg, Amy had it amputated three years later at the age of 21. She is a mother of two, a runner, a triathlete and in 2009 she became the first amputee to win an ultramarathon outright and to make the US National Team going to France this summer. In 2010 she will attempt to finish both the Western States 100 and Badwater. Amy was a blast to chat with.
