Galen Rupp made the finals at 10,000 meters in his first Olympics in Beijing in 2008, and London is definitely in his sights for next summer. Earlier this year he ran his first half marathon in New York City and went 1:00:30, the third fastest half marathon for an American. In mid September he stepped it up a notch when he ran an amazing 26:48.00, the fastest ever 10,000 for a non-African.
Five members of the top rated La Costa Canyon girls cross country team -Kelly Lawson, Emma and Ellie Abrahamson, Rebekah Bosler and Shanoah Souza- came in studio with Huddle and me to chat about cross country, track, the bench press, their toughest workout ever, water polo, and even the steeplechase. The one senior on the team, Shanoah Souza, daughter of duathlon legend Kenny, was VERY excited-NOT-that we had copies of old Competitor Magazines showcasing her dad racing in lime green Speedos on the cover.
