The last time Mark Zeigler came on The Competitors was on March 4, 2012, a few weeks after the Department of Justice case against Lance Armstrong was thrown out by Andre Birotte Junior. During our interview at that time, Mark said that when that case had been thrown out, a source sent him a four word text: It’s Not Over Yet.
Our hour long conversation with Zeigler started from that point in time and takes us through the last few months.
It took Tyler Hamilton, whose cycling life serves as the back drop for The Secret Race, a long time to come to grips with something his parents preached to him when he was a child: The truth will set you free.
It’s called The Secret Race and it reads more like a James Bond thriller than a tell-all cycling book. With code names, disguises, and secret meetings, it’s simply a great read. The author, Daniel Coyle, who also wrote Lance Armstrong’s War, came on to discuss how the book came to be.
No one’s talking about him, but come October 13th, make sure to keep your eye on Dirk Bockel, who just keeps getting better every year. In 2011 he was fourth in Kona and this summer he knocked off Michael Raelert at Ironman Regensburg for his first ever Ironman victory. Dirk followed that up with a bronze medal behind Chris McCormack and Eneko Llanos at the ITU World Long Course Championship.
