Max Fennell was hoping to become a professional soccer player until he hurt his knee. A friend loaned him a bike and suggested he try his first triathlon at the Tri Rock Philly in 2011. He loved the experience and, even though he swam breaststroke for a big part of the swim, he ended up finishing seventh in his division in the sprint race. His goal now is to become the first African American professional triathlete and to one day make the U.S. Olympic triathlon team.
