At the age of 10, Angela Naeth watched the Ironman World Championship on TV and felt that one day she wanted to give that race a try. Coming off of a sixth place finish at Ironman Melbourne and a win at Ironman Hawaii 70.3, she just might be joining the best in the world at that legendary starting line in Kona on October 11th.
Allan Pitman is a 66 year old Aussie who will be racing his 40th Ironman in Kona this October and his 16th Ironman World Championship. We also think Allan will be the first triathlete in Kona to be racing with his grand daughter!
She was a concert pianist who played Carnegie Hall three times. On June 1st, at the age of 91, Harriette Thompson broke the world marathon record for her age group by two hours and 45 minutes while running 7:07:42 at the Suja Rock n Roll San Diego Marathon. What an amazing woman!
Larry Turkheimer, along with the LA Tri Club, created an awesome program four years ago called The Coast 2 Coast Swim Challenge, which is coming up on June 1st the at Culver City Plunge. The goal is for participants to donate to a great cause -providing free swim lessons to underserved kids – while getting in a great workout themselves. This year the Ironman Foundation has partnered up with the LA Tri Club to bring the program to pools all over the country. This year there will be 18 other Tri clubs participating between May 1 and June 30. The goal is to have everyone swim a combined 2,462 miles -the distance between LA and New York City. Joanna Zeiger knows just a bit about training. She took fourth place at the first ever Olympic Triathlon in Sydney in 2000, won the 2008 Ironman 70.3 World Championship, took tenth, sixth, sixth, and fourth at the Ironman World Championship, and is looking to make it to the 2016 Olympic Marathon Trials, which would be her seventh Olympic Trials appearance through swimming, triathlon, and the marathon.
