22 year old Taylor Phinney, the son of cycling legends Davis Phinney and Connie Carpenter Phinney, came on to chat about his training as he heads into London for his second Olympics, his strictly business approach to coming home with a medal, the allure of Paris Roubaix, and what he gained from not only winning the first stage of the 2012 Giro d’ Italia, but from completing that classic event.
For his teammates, Davis Phinney was always their go-to guy when it came to winning time. The same goes for Huddle and me when it comes to lining up a guest for a classic interview. Davis is always our go-to guy as well. His new book, The Happiness of Pursuit, chronicles his legendary years as one of America’s best cyclists, his marriage to Olympic Gold Medalist Connie Carpenter and the blossoming cycling career of their son Taylor. When he was 40 years old, Davis was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease and the book also deals with the creation of the Davis Phinney Foundation and their search every day for small victories.
