Eric McElvenny lost his leg below the knee to an IED in Afghanistan in December of 2011. Within 60 days of the explosion he was being fitted for a prosthetic leg and within one year he had completed three triathlons. He is also a Pittsburgh native, a huge Steeler fan, and he is now part of the Refuel Got Chocolate Milk Become One Program, training and racing with Steeler legend Hines Ward. They raced together for the first time at the Super Seal Triathlon in Coronado and step one was a huge success!
Navy SEAL Moki Martin created the infamous Superfrog Triathlon back in 1979, and the 35th running of that classic event is coming up on Sunday September 29th. Moki also has the SuperSeal Olympic and Sprint Distance events coming up on Sunday March 17th on the Silver Strand in Coronado. Super Bowl MVP Hines Ward, now training to participate in the Ironman in Hawaii this coming October, will be attempting his first ever triathlon at SuperSeal as part of Chocolate Milk’s Become One program. Moki, who was a top age group triathlete until he was paralyzed in a bike accident back in 1982, has never lost his love for the sport -or his events- and that comes through loud and clear in our chat. To sign up for SuperSeal or Superfrog go to www.superfrogtriathlon.com .
