Ricky James started racing motocross when he was all of 10 years old. By the age of 16 he was one of the best up and coming riders around. Then a crash changed everything and James was paralyzed from the waist down. In 2008, with the help and support of motocross legend – and the 2000 Ironman champion in the handcycle division – David Bailey, Ricky James finished the Ironman World Championship in his first attempt. After a few years away from the sport, Ricky James is back racing triathlons and loving it more than ever.
Krige Schabort, at the age of 48, is the very best handcycle triathlete in the world. In his first two trips to Kona, he went 9:26:04 in 2010-he took over an hour off Carlos Moleda’s course record in his very first trip to The Big Island- and then went even faster- 9:24:35- in 2011.
