Ricky James started racing motocross when he was all of 10 years old. By the age of 16 he was one of the best up and coming riders around. Then a crash changed everything and James was paralyzed from the waist down. In 2008, with the help and support of motocross legend – and the 2000 Ironman champion in the handcycle division – David Bailey, Ricky James finished the Ironman World Championship in his first attempt. After a few years away from the sport, Ricky James is back racing triathlons and loving it more than ever.
Former New York City Firefighter, Boston Marathon qualifier and Ironman finisher Matt Long came on with us to chat about his amazing recovery after being struck by a 20-ton bus while on his bike back in December of 2005. After more than 40 operations and being told he would be lucky to ever walk again without a cane, Long once again ran the New York City Marathon and finished Ironman Lake Placid. Looking for a little motivation for your next long run? Listen in to Matt’s story and you’ll have your best training day ever!
