In his first ever Ironman distance event, Germany’s Sebastian Kienle went sub 8:00 hours. He was introduced to the sport of triathlon at the ripe old age of eight, told his third grade teacher that he wanted to grow up to be a professional triathlete and knew in his heart early on that the Ironman was for him. 2012 turned out to be a huge breakout year for Sebastian as he rode away from a stacked field, ran 1:16 off the bike, and won the Ironman 70.3 World Championship at Lake Las Vegas and followed that up with a strong fourth place debut in Kona despite losing about five minutes with a flat tire.
