Imagine growing up as a runner – like Amy Hastings – and having posters of your heroes – like Deena Kastor – on your wall. Now imagine moving to Mammoth and actually getting to train with your hero – and a collection of other running legends – on a daily basis.
Chris Lieto did everything right in 2009 in Kona, but still took second. He ended up about 2 ½ minutes off of the win when Craig Alexander made up 12 minutes in the marathon and ran him down. Lieto came on from Mammoth where worked hard on his running with Ryan Hall, Meb Keflezighi, Deena Kastor and Josh Cox, to name a few.
Chris Lieto had the race of his life at the 2009 Ford Ironman World Championship, led for the better part of the day, but ended up second to a fast closing Craig Alexander. He came on to discuss his thoughts on the race and the improvements in his running that came from spending six weeks in Mammoth training with Ryan Hall, Deena Kastor, Josh Cox and New York City Marathon champion Meb Kelflezighi.
