Mark Plaatjes has a marathon personal best of 2:08:58 and he won the marathon at the 1993 World Championships in Stuttgart, Germany. But statistics do little to tell the real story behind an amazing man. As a black South African, Plaatjes was forced to deal with apartheid at home and discrimination abroad.
