Tim DeBoom is the last American to win the Ironman World Championship, back in 2001 and 2002. Tim wrote an article for the latest edition of Inside Triathlon and came on the show to talk about who he feels can end the drought and his thoughts on Ironman’s pro qualification process.

Kona Countdown: Tim DeBoom

cmrHe is the last American male to win in Kona and he is one of a very select group to have won the Ironman two years in a row, in 2001 and 2002. Back in 2005, Tim DeBoom came on with us and he was great!

cmrTim DeBoom has won two Ford Ironman World Championship titles, in 2001 and 2002. In 2003 he was in the hunt during the run when a kidney stone forced him from the race, but since then he hasn’t been a factor in Kona due to injury after injury. Two weeks out from Ironman 2007, he is in Arizona training hard and it sounds like the guy is as fit and ready to go as ever. One thing is for sure: If Tim DeBoom didn’t think he could still win the most important triathlon on earth, you wouldn’t see him at the starting line.
